1. MOMA

2. TATE MODERN

The Tate Gallery of Modern Art is the world’s most visited museum of modern and contemporary art. It is located in the former Bankside Power Station, that was converted into a gallery by the Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron. You will find great Tate-impressions on Instagram :

3. CENTRE POMPIDOU

The Centre national d’art et de culture George-Pompidou was opened in 1977 and is home of the Musée National d’Art Moderne, the public reading library Bpi, the Kandinsky research library, a performing space, a lecture theater and two cinemas. The museum shows permanent and temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.

4. SOLOMON R. GUGGENHEIM

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was founded in 1939 and owns a remarkable collection of impressionistic, post impressionistic, expressionistic, surrealistic and abstract art. The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is situated between Central Park and East River.

5. MUSÈE DE L’ORANGERIE

The Musée de l’Orangerie is located in the Jardin des Tuileries and famous for its installation of the Water Lilies by Claude Monet. Besides, it owns the Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume collection of French modern art, containing paintings of Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso and many more.

6. MUNCH MUSEET

The Munch Museet in Oslo owns Edvard Munch’s estate, that was bequeathed to the city of Oslo by the painter himself. The collection contains more than 1,000 paintings, including The Scream, Anxiety and Madonna.

7. ALBERTINA MUSEUM

The Albertina Museum possesses one of Europe’s biggest private collections of classical modern art. The so called Collection Batliner includes masterpieces from French impressionists like Monet and Renoir, fauvists like Matisse, expressionists like Die Brücke, Russian avant-gardists like Malewitsch and newer artworks from Bacon, Giacometti and Kiefer.

8. KUNSTMUSEUM BASEL

The Kunstmuseum Basel owns a world-famous collection of modern art, including remarkable works from Picasso, Braque, Monet, van Gogh, Mondrian, Matisse, Rodin and many more.

9. NEUE NATIONALGALERIE

The Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin was founded in 1968 and shows masterpieces of modern art, including artworks from Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Gerhard Richter, Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Georg Grosz, Paul Klee, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol.

10. LEOPOLD MUSEUM

The Leopold Museum in Vienna is owner of the world’s largest collection of Egon Schiele. It also exhibits a great number of Art Nouveau masterpieces from the famous painter Gustav Klimt.
